This Smarkets review looks at one of the biggest betting exchanges in the sports betting marketplace.
Jason Trost founded Smarkets in 2008 – aiming to replicate financial trading principles in a betting exchange format. Smarkets have grown rapidly in recent years to challenge Betfair.
Let’s take a look at what’s on offer.
Smarkets offer a wide range of sports betting markets, plus current affairs and betting on political events.
All betting markets are easily accessible via the left-hand menu. Smarkets desktop site has a clear, user friendly interface. There is an impressive range of current and future betting markets available.
The overall feel is slick and professional. Betting odds are displayed in a clear colour scheme. The green box is for back bets, whilst the blue box shows lay bets.
The above screenshot shows the Match Odds market for Liverpool versus Salzburg. Matched bettors and traders have bet thousand of pounds for and against each outcome.
Smarkets previously had a reputation for poor liquidity in their betting markets. However, there is now plenty amount of money available to match your bets.
You can choose either a dark or light coloured theme on the desktop or mobile site. I personally prefer the dark theme, but it’s nice to have the choice.
Smarkets website is impressively slick and easy to navigate. I often use the search function to quickly find obscure sorting events.
I also regularly use Smarkets mobile site when matched betting on the move, particularly when matched betting in shops.
Now let’s discuss some of Smarkets key features in more detail.
Smarkets Instant Match
The Smarkets Instant Match feature will enhance your in-play matched betting.
There is no immediate in-play betting delay. Instead, live bets are placed pending an 8-second confirmation period. If an in-play incident happens to affect the odds, then your bet will not be matched.
This feature helps when betting on quickly changing markets.
Extra Smarkets features
“Keep Bets In-play“
Previously, all unmatched bets were cancelled once an event started. The Keep Bets In-Play feature allows you to retain unmatched bets for when a market goes in-play.
This is a great feature for in-play matched bettors and traders.
The option to cash out your exchange bets is useful for 2up matched betting offers.
Users can trade out pre-match and in-play. You will see a “Trade Out” button next to your selection in the betting market. Simply click the “Trade Out” option and then confirm to place a successful trade out.
Smarkets mobile app is available for Apple devices on the Apple App Store. Android users can search for the app on the Google Play Store.
You will find the same functionality as the desktop and mobile sites, including backing and laying, in-play betting, and real-time odds updates.
Help is available at Smarkets 24/7 from their live chat service. The operators can answer any questions about your Smarkets account.
Additional support options are via telephone (weekday office hours), email responses within 24 hours, or submit a query on Twitter.
Smarkets are now one of the foremost betting exchanges in the world. They have progressed immensely in recent years, with a fast and intuitive betting exchange platform.
Each of the betting exchanges have their merits. However, I have used Smarkets as my main exchange for the last few years.
It will be a fascinating to see how Smarkets evolves as the competition intensifies with Betdaq, Betfair, and Matchbook.
